Not a day goes by when I don’t get an email or see a site pushing yet another pixel advertising site but are these really a good advertising venue or is everyone just jumping on the band wagon expecting to make a few quick bucks or even get rich.

A search on Google for pixel sites gives 22,7000 results. The rage started when a 21 yr old from England launched an advertising site where you paid $1 per pixel of advertising and the page was divided into 1,000,000 pixels. The advertising sold out and the guy made a cool million dollars! And get this the last remaining 1000 pixels were sold on ebay for a staggering $38,100!

The original site – The Million Dollar Homepage was launched on 26th August 2005. The guy then emailed all his friends and told them to pass on details of his site to their friends and so on. . . and then he sold his first 400 pixels for $400. At this stage the site was getting around 100 hits a day so he started to contact the press. An IT news site picked it up and ran an article resulting in 2000 hits an hour, it got ranked by Google and the hits went up to 35,000 a day.

And as the ball started rolling the visitors to the site increased, more pixels were sold, the guy made more money and the press interest increased. The site was getting over 100,000 unique visitors in 2 days and the UK nationals ran stories on the site. Then the story found its way into US papers, TV appearances followed and so on. . . . publicity generates publicity. The site was getting hundreds of thousands of unique visitors and advertisers were seeing a good click through rate for their adverts.

Further TV interviews and radio interviews followed, Reuters ran an article on the site, as did the Wall Street Journal. With the last few remaining pixels auctioned on eBay the guy made is million dollars on 11th January 2006 – less of course any costs he incurred.

And then of course, the site was hacked and money demanded (which the FBI are currently investigating) but even this led to more media interest.

By the end of October 2005 hundreds of copy cat sites had started to spring up. Now there are thousands of them if not more. Have you visited any of these – most have no adverts on them, no traffic and no one in their right mind would choose to advertise on them.

So why have thousands of others thought they could hop on the bandwagon and make a quick $1,000,000? This guy had an unprecedented level of media attention, driving thousands and thousands of visitors to the site.

Even the guy behind the Million Dollar Home Page pixel site acknowledges that it is not a lasting business idea but a novel one off idea. There is no long term business concept and it will only work once. How long it will take those jumping on the pixel bandwagon to realise this – who knows!

The Mediterranean diet is not some new fad diet . . . dreamed up by a weight-loss “guru” or as a new health measure. It is thousands of years old. People living along the Mediterranean Sea have been eating a natural diet . . . that has been proven in numerous studies to reduce the risk of heart attack and keep blood pressure from rising.

The great thing about the Mediterranean diet is . . . it’s a pleasure to eat and you’re much more likely to stick with it. It’s easy to adopt this diet as there are no special requirements. Unlike the radical requirements of many fad diets, the Mediterranean diet doesn’t ask you to make impractical changes in your eating . . . it offers you a way of eating that you can maintain long-term. It will lead you to long-term health benefits.

~ What is a Mediterranean Diet ~

Amongst the people of Greece, southern France, and parts of Italy . . . natural whole foods are a large part of the diet. Fruits and vegetables, fish, nuts, and olive oil are the heavy hitters in protecting your heart and lowering your blood pressure. Drinking wine with meals is an old custom . . . and gives even more health benefits.

The Mediterranean diet doesn’t look at all fats as bad. Instead, this way of eating makes wise choices in the fats that are used. Low in saturated fat . . . the Mediterranean diet is full of healthy omega-3 fatty acids and monounsaturated fats.

Since mainly whole foods are eaten along the Mediterranean Sea . . . the deadly trans-fats — found in fast foods and bakery goods — are greatly reduced.

~ Living on a Sea Gives you Lots of Fish ~

Fish are a big part of the Mediterranean diet. Eating lots of fish has been recognized as being heart protective for quite a while, now. Especially, fatty fish are good for your heart and blood pressure . . . they are full of healthy omega-3 fatty acids.

Eating fish 2-3 times a week is a great way to lower blood pressure and ensure a long, healthy life.

~ Lots of Olive Trees Grow Along the Mediterranean Sea ~

Olive trees grow on sunny hillsides . . . providing both tasty olives and golden olive oil. Olive oil is used in most Mediterranean cooking . . . drizzled on rough chunks of whole-grain bread, mixed in salads, used in making tomato sauces. The flavonoids in virgin olive oil lower blood pressure and increase your levels of good HDL cholesterol.

That . . . and olive oil tastes great and gives off a wonderful fragrance when heated.

~ Nuts Are an Ancient Energy Source ~

Since the Stone Age, nuts have been an important source of energy. Shunned a few decades ago because of their high fat content . . . nuts were given a bum rap. The fats in nuts are good fats . . . healthy fats that will lower your blood pressure and protect your heart.

Just a handful of nuts — especially walnuts — is a tasty way to protect your heart.

~ Wash Your Meal Down With a Glass of Red Wine ~

A glass of red wine goes great with Mediterranean meals. Your heart will also enjoy the glass of wine. Red wine is rich in healthy flavonoids — anti-oxidants that protect your heart from dangerous free radicals. Enjoy a daily glass or two and lower your blood pressure . . . lower your risk of heart attack.

Recent studies have shown that light red wine drinkers have less risk than non-drinkers. Just don’t over-do it.

~ A Great Diet to Start And so today ~

The main feature of the Mediterranean diet is the focus on natural whole foods . . . a shift away from unhealthy processed foods with their dangerous bad fats. And, the good thing is . . . it’s so easy to get started. Nothing radical . . . just ask those who live healthy lives along the Mediterranean Sea.

Every child enjoys listening to music and at present there are so many kid songs created by excellent talented artists, it can be difficult to choose a favorite. Music is not only a good way to help children learn and interact with one another but also a excellent way to have some good fun. Kid songs differ by style and artist so your little tot has a wide selection of options for his musical tastes.

Among all the hottest bands that make up the wide collection of kids songs is the Laurie Berkner Band; a hot prized among little ones across the United States. Laurie Berkner works jointly with her husband and her trusted friend to write and produce a large number of kid songs for your little one to enjoy. For sure, this band offers a varied portfolio of musical styles to meet any music lover’s tastes.

The kid songs are appealing to both kids and adults alike and the different kinds of musical styles the band makes use of are simply brilliant. This offers a unique opportunity for children to be introduced to a number of different types of music. Say for instance, the Laurie Berkner Band has created a few songs that appeal to the blues. Several of my daughter’s prized kid songs are written in the classic blues style. Of which, the band produced a lovely tune named “I know a Chicken” that helps children learn more about animals and its sounds. Besides, it also introduces them to the rhythmic blues tempo found in music from that genre. In fact the song almost reminds me of a song performed by the Muddy Waters Blues Band.

In addition, the Laurie Berkner Band also offers kid songs that have an island appeal to kids. Another song with a cool reggae beat is the song “Under a Shady Tree” that’s easily recognized by any Bob Marley fan. This helps children gain a feeling for various types of music and it helps them comprehend that a place can be captured by a tune.

Though none can match up with the Laurie Berkner Band, there are lots of other bands that offer good kid sings. The popular kid’s channel, Noggin features this band in a number of shows and specials. These specials and shows are on the top of our household’s family viewing listing.

As for my daughter, she simply looks forward to seeing what this exciting children’s band has to offer next. Yes, sometimes I’ve to admit I do, too. Who would ever think that kid sings could be so educational and entertaining.

Playing a musical instrument is a gift to all those who hear it. Does it really matter if you play a classical musical instrument or a contemporary musical instrument? It can. First and foremost, playing a musical instrument should be fun and rewarding. If it’s not, you are not likely to practice it at all and eventually you will lose interest.

Playing classical music with a classical instrument can be remarkably challenging and rewarding. As a general standard, classical music is more intricate that contemporary music, although there are naturally exceptions to all rule.

Playing contemporary music with contemporary instruments can also be tremendously satisfying and rewarding. While not everyone may agree that contemporary music is a gift when they hear it, those who appreciate it will appreciate it deeply.

One of my favorite trends as of late is to either play contemporary music with a classical instrument or classical music with a contemporary instrument. Both sounds are considerably remarkable and both aspects take quite a bit of talent and practice. Creating this interesting twist can ultimately please more crowds, as classical music played with a contemporary instrument can reach the younger generations and actually turn them on to classical styles. The same can be said about contemporary music that is played with classical instruments.

When choosing between classical or contemporary instruments, the best method of decision making is simple preference. When choosing for a child, or helping a child make the decision, preference of course still matters, but opening the doors to new music and different experiences can really benefit the child tremendously. The basic goal for choosing an instrument, either classical or contemporary, is finding an expression that works well with the personality. Children who learn at least a little of both classical and contemporary expression are more equipped to make the decision for themselves later on.

Classical music and instrumentation can teach strong basic skills, while venturing into contemporary music and instrumentation can be both inspiring and fun for kids, especially older children.

Being well versed in classical music can actually provide a better platform for kids or adults who want to play a more contemporary instrument. Contemporary music is generally written with the use of only a few chords and a basic beat while classical music demands a higher level of instrumentation. If we never teach kids the classical instruments or the classical music, the classical arts are destined to die.

Advantages: Complex characters, plot told from different viewpoints, realistic morality
Disadvantages: Depressing

The first book of the Song of Ice and Fire series is my first foray into George R. R. Martin’s world. Before I was introduced to his work, I was commonly a Robert Jordan fan. Upon reading A Game of Thrones, I realized that I was missing a huge part of the high fantasy genre.

From beginning to end, I was not sure whether or not I really liked the book. The plot was interesting enough. If it’s worth anything, I spent a couple of sleep-deprived nights reading A Game of Thrones! Now that I think back, I would say that the complexity of the characters and the plot as a whole is what made me hold back. Other fantasy novels mostly define the line between good and evil very clearly. We have the good characters on one side and the evil powers on the other. George R. R. Martin manages to reflect reality by emphasizing the moral gray areas. Characters are not boxed into single moral categories. There is no clear protagonist. A “good” character is not totally likeable. An “evil” character seems to be a nice person on the inside. Good and bad is so maddeningly intertwined you cannot help but see a reflection of the real world.

This book is not for the faint of heart. If you are looking for light reading, free of violence and sex, you might not want to read A Game of Thrones. There were times when I thought Martin was overdoing it a bit. I decided I would just chalk it up to artistic freedom.

Another frustrating aspect of the book is that as the story progresses, it seems that the “good” guys are getting killed off one by one. If that is not enough to make you depressed I don’t know what is. Of course this is only the first book in a yet uncompleted series -the story is yet to unfold.

The storyline is gripping. It leaves you craving for more. One good thing about discovering this series at this late date is that you would not have to wait for the next few books to be written. A Feast for Crows, the fourth and latest book of the series, has been out since last year. Once you start with A Game of Thrones, you might want to pace yourself so as not to have to wait too long for the fifth book.

So many ideas for baby shower centrepieces can leave you in a turmoil not knowing what to pick to display on the day. Centrepieces used for baby showers were traditionally flower arrangements. Floral pieces on show would come beautifully arranged in a basket or a crystal holder.

Remember the theme for the baby shower when choosing what flowers to have for the centrepiece. A good idea is to try blending in personal items in and around the arrangement. Colour is another important factor we don’t need the table laden with pastel lemons and whites only to throw in a big red bloom. Another issue to focus on is selecting the right flowers.

Flowers are one of natures beauty alongside your newborn, blossoms picked by you for the baby shower will enhance the occasion with an essence so sweet filling the air.

Personal items for the flower basket centrepiece can include baby novelties like cuddly toys these can be bears and bunnies to baby clothes.

Have you considered preparing and making up your own baby shower centrepiece, if this is out of your league then buy one, expect to pay approx 35 pounds upwards all depending on the design and content i. e. whatever goodies you choose to place inside the basket.
Baby shower centrepieces can come in edible form such as a baby showers cake. If a diaper cake is your decoration for the middle of the table then you have to remember these are not for consumption. Diaper cake is actually made up of diaper/nappies. It is a fabulous and practical idea for a baby shower centrepiece.

Another tip and cost effective for a centrepiece is to place a plant on display not only does this do the trick but you get to keep the plant for a long while after.
Try placing some baby extras around the pot like baby linen, towels what ever you feel is best suited
It has been known that fishbowls have been used to decorate the table at baby showers, floating candles, beads or flower petals were added to spice up the look.

Liven up the occasion with colour add balloons they are cheap and ideal for the baby shower party.
Try tying a few brightly coloured bows around cuddly toys. Silk flowers scattered around a neat tower of baby linen or candles encompassed by baby soaps and smellies. Do be careful with candles.

Creativity creates a more exciting centre piece I hear, I don’t think so not if you are on a budget.

If you are struggling to meet the cost of a baby shower centrepiece then cunning it has to be. Here is how it is done spruce up the table with more colour by adding floating balloons, action the whole content of the table with so many different little gifts brightly gift wrapped. And a definite guarantee to distract eye contact away from the non absent centrepiece is to place plates of cream filled cakes here and there; the centrepiece will not even be missed.

When your band and you as the lead singer use electronic musical instruments such as the electric guitar, electric bass or the microphone etc, conducting a sound check is necessary to balance the sound of the instruments and your voice.

Your band members will sound check their own instruments and their systems such as the monitor first and then you, the singer or the vocal section will do your own sound check last once the sound system for the musical instruments are already well balanced. Sound check in this sequence will enable you to hear how you sound when you are actually singing with your band.

At the sound check, make sure that your microphone is free from its stand if you want to move around or dance during your singing performance. Also ask the sound equipment technicians for a monitor to be placed in front of you so that you can hear yourself sing. If you can get your hands on a pair of sound monitor earpiece, that will be better because this will give you more room to prance around and entertain your audience and fans.

How to sound check the singer’s microphone?

Your singing voice when produced by the microphone should be louder and above the sounds produced by the band so that your voice can carry the songs well and able to portray your feel, song interpretation and emotions clearly. Sometimes, this may result in loud feed backs (that loud piercing screeching sound produced by the microphone) so much so that your sound technician or yourself must know where the maximum volume can be before the irritating screeching feedback occurs. The sound technician should mark this threshold on his sound board control.

During the crescendo parts of songs, move away from the microphone so that you do not trigger feedback and move back in again during the softer part of the songs. By doing this, you are not only able to control feed backs, you will also not irritate sensitive audience who may not enjoy loud singing. On the other hand, when the singing is soft and you are far away from your audience, they may not be able to make out what you are singing and that is why you need to move closer to the microphone when the interpretation of the song calls for you to sing softly.

It is important to watch out for consonants or lyrics beginning with ‘P’s and ‘B’s. When you are singing loudly into the microphone, these consonants may cause explosive pop pop sounds on the microphone. If you think ‘M’, you will be able to prevent ‘please’ and ‘baby’ exploding out of the speakers.

The final sound check

At the end of the sound check session, you and your band must run through a couple of songs. This is done not only because you want to hear whether the sound is good from the audience perspective but also whether all your band members can hear themselves, the band as a whole and sound from their monitors.

The whole world is captivated by the movies coming out of the major American film studios, but it is one thing to view the movies and another thing to get behind the scenes, find out how they were made and go on rides that put you right into the midst of the most popular movies of our time. You can do all of this at the Universal Studios theme park in Orlando, Florida.

Let’s take a look at any of the attractions currently on offer at the Universal Studios park in Orlando.

First of all, if you need to “get under the hood” and view how films are made then your first stop should be Production Central, Production Central area of Universal Studios. Located just beyond front gates of Universal Studios, you’ll find yourself in the middle of a real working film and television production studio.

And while you are in Production Central you can treat yourself and your family to a spectacular Shrek adventure. Shrek 4D features an original 3D film which the studio says is produced with Ogrevision. Here you can join Shrek, Donkey and Princess Fiona on a wild adventure. According the Universal Studios website, “You see, hear and actually FEEL the action right from your seat! If you love motion simulator rides, you’ll love Shrek 4-D™. ”

Were you thrilled by the movie “Revenge of the Mummy?” And do you like roller coasters? If you answered yes to either of these questions then you will enjoy the Revenge of the Mummy ride. Here is how Universal describes it, “Plunge into total darkness as you face fireballs, scarab beetles, and an army of warrior mummies on a psychological thrill ride totally unlike anything that’s come along in the past 3,000 years!” That, sounds like something that will delight any family of film lovers.

Would you often protect the earth from an alien attack? Then you should hop onboard the Men in Black Alien Attack ride. Universal has created 120 alien species for this attraction. Each six passenger vehicle is equipped with laser guns and “As an agent trainee, you’ll zap aliens as you chase them through the streets of New York in this high-tech ride based on the hit movie. ”

The Terminator series of films was an imaginative look at the future, and the Terminator attraction at Universal Studios lives up to the legacy of that popular trilogy. The attraction is called, “Terminator 2: 3-D Battle Across Time,” and it is said to be one of the more elaborate and technologically advanced theme park experiences ever created. All Terminator fans will get a kick out of this ride.

So, are you ready to withstand the all out attack of Jaws? Then get on board the Jaws ride at Universal but be careful because you’re gonna need a bigger boat! Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, a giant fin slices through the waves and you’re suddenly face to face with three tons of Great White fury.

In addition to high tech thrill rides, Universal offers plenty of outdoor entertainment. There is a Blues Brothers show, a tribute to comedy queen Lucille Ball and a monster themed Beetlejuice Graveyard Revue, complete with screamin’ demons and wailing guitars.

Universal has produced rich load of imaginative films and characters and the Studio draws on them to the maximum to create a theme park that will live up to and exceed your expectations.

Creating your own Streaming Audio audio studio has never been easier. There are so many great products around today that will allow you to produce high quality streaming audio for a fraction of the price it used to cost.

HARDWARE

The first thing you will need is a compatible computer. And so today every new computer is already set up with everything you will need. A basic sound card with a mic and line in jack. If you do not have a sound card they are very cheap and you can get a good one from any standard computer shop.

Next you will need a good mic. These come in all sizes and shapes with different configurations however a general all round mic like the Logitech Noise-canceling microphone is fine for beginners. I suggest you get a desk top one to start with, as you may need to move into video later and so you will not need a headset in your videos.

Of course you could go up a stage and get a preamp with a professional mic but this will start running into dollars and the whole aim of this article is to help you get started.

Next you will need to get any cables to connect up your tape recorder and other audio equipment. Again the computer stores now have packs that will connect up pretty well any device into your computer to digitalise your sound. You need to record directly onto your computer however you can get those old tapes and Vinyl records into a digital format also.

SOFTWARE – RECORDING

Recording your audio is probably one of the most critical parts of this process and again you can get software that ranges from free to many thousands of dollars. For this exercise I suggest you download the free copy of Audacity. This is an excellent free software package that will allow you to record from your microphone or any equipment you have.

It provides excellent editing capabilities and also will allow you to edit multiple tracks and then combine them into one single track. For a quick overview of how to do this you can watch this video and also download the software

http://mp3soundstream. com/Audacity_Tutorial_-_Free_Audio_Editing_Software. html

SOFTWARE – CONVERTING

The next piece of software you will need for your studio is a converting program that will allow you to convert different formats. For example you may have a real audio file and you need to convert it to mp3. dBpoweramp is like the Swiss army knife for the audio industry and will convert just about any file to any other file format.

Convert from one format to another, just about every audio type is supported: mp3, mp4, Windows Media Audio (wma), Ogg Vorbis, AAC, Monkeys Audio, FLAC and many others whilst preserving ID Tags. It will also rip CDs for you.

SOFTWARE – REDUCTION

If you are going to stream an mp3 direct then you may need to recompile the file to a smaller format. RazorLame is a so-called “front-end” for use with LAME. LAME is a great MP3-Encoder, it’s very fast, it produces high-quality files, has many advanced features (like Variable Bitrates and Joint-Stereo), and it’s open source. Unfortunately, it is a command line utility, and that is where RazorLame comes in: It provides an easy-to-use graphical user-interface which makes MP3-encoding even easier!

The best way to use this software is to get one file and compile in a number of different formats to test the size against quality.

SOFTWARE – STREAMING

There are a few different ways of streaming your new audio files. If you have Macromedia products you can simple organize this your self however there are any great third party programs around that will do it all for you at a fraction of the cost.

MP3 SOUND STREAM

This is a simple piece of software that takes any mp3 or wav audio and converts the whole file into a swf file and then attaches a button so that viewers can listen on a web page without needing to download any extra software. This is because the flash plugin is on 98% of computes and if not it will automatically detect and load the small plugin. This is great for anyone not wanting to get into all the technical aspects of streaming audio.

You will not need to reduce your files at all with this program as it does it all for you. This is perfect for anyone wanting to stream one file at a time and wants to do it quickly and efficiently. It will stream even over most modem connections.

MSIJUKEBOX

For people wanting to stream a number of files then MSIJukebox is a great alternative. This software lets you choose any number of mp3 files and then organises them using an XML file. By using the above free programs you can significantly reduce the size of these files to save on bandwidth.

Because MSIJukebox streams the actual mp3 you can also have a lot higher quality playback including stereo files. This is much better for those wanting to stream a number of very high quality mp3 files.

SUMMARY

So there you have it. A complete studio set up for under $100. Just download all the free software and purchase any of the streaming audio products that you want. You can then create, edit and manipulate any audio files you like. You will also be able to add these audios to your website.

With the web surfer becoming much more “web savvy” than they were a year ago, they are expecting not only information but also an entertaining web experience.

It’s true – you have a “song” that you sing. . . all day long. That song, is your vibration, your resonance – and it is created right out of the feelings and beliefs that you are focused upon.

Your song… is directly related to your success. Think about this — if your song is your success, then would you choose to sing a song that you loved and radiated out into the world that you are worthy, abundant, successful, beautiful, confident. . . .

Or – would you sing a song that you were not aligned with, made you feel cranky and irritable, perhaps kept you feeling stuck, and kept you tapped into scarcity consciousness and lack?

The Law of Attraction says that what you put out in the form of emotions, attitudes, beliefs, and ways of being – ultimately will be mirrored back to you in your life. The song that you choose to “sing” will be replicated over and over again. . . oh, kind of like a broken record. Who likes broken records?!

If you need to change your life. . . change your song, sing a new tune.

Life can be fresh and new if you are tapped into the stream of abundance and well being. Your song can uplift your life if you choose to let it – or something else. You – are the Mozart in this piece. What notes will you choose, what song will you sing?

“You can begin right now to feel healthy. You can begin to feel prosperous.

You can begin to feel the love that’s surrounding you, even if it’s not there. And what will happen is the Universe will correspond to the nature of your song. The Universe will correspond to the nature of that inner feeling, and manifest, because that’s the way you feel. ”

Dr. Michael Beckwith D. D – The Secret

The “secret” to changing your tune and resonating a new song for success is not difficult in theory, but does take a few conscious choices on your part. Let’s talk about a few ways to jump start you:

1. Choose to be conscious. Pay attention to what you are putting out there.

2. Choose a better note – or whole song for that matter. Did you ever song stuck in your head. . . and in order to get it out, you literally have to play a new song, or change your focus. Same theory here gang.

3. Choose a song that makes you feel good – i. e. . . . choose feelings that serve you, that make you feel better than where you are at right now. Find your ground – even when shock hits your life. You can find a place of ease – or at least relief.

4. I took my daughter to the eye doctor a few weeks ago, and as he flips through the lenses he says – over and over I might add. . . “is this better, or this better?” You can do this with your feelings as well. Does this feel better, or this? This or this. . . this or this. . . this or this. . . . Go with what feels better – and your song will change, and so will your level of success.

This week, take note of your song, and make a conscious choice to just be conscious about what you are singing. Then ask, is that the tune I need to resonate? If not…start to make a few small steps in the direction of feeling a little better, or choosing a new perspective. Life unravels in amazing ways when you let it.

Peace,

Lori Hamann
